Shauna Chacon holds a Master of Science degree and is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC). She has over twenty years of experience as a licensed therapist, working with complex family systems in varied settings, including the court system and educational settings. Shauna has worked in an outpatient setting and provided in-home therapeutic services to families at-risk for out of home placements. Shauna enjoys working with adolescents, as she truly appreciates their honesty and humor. Shauna connects with her clients by establishing a relationship based on trust, compassion, and humor in order to build an alliance to help the client understand “we are on the same team!” Shauna helps her clients connect the day-to-day patterns and issues that play out in the treatment world to their "real world" experiences, reminding her clients "wherever you go, there you are!"
Shauna has expertise in the following areas: anxiety, depression, self-harm, trauma, adoption, attachment/relationship issues, shame, low self-esteem, ADHD and substance abuse. Shauna helps adolescents and their families learn to improve their communication in order to strengthen their relationships. She helps clients understand core issues that drive unhealthy behaviors and explore ways to change the behavior. This understanding creates the space for hope to blossom to improve their relationships while increasing their sense of self and confidence.
Shauna uses a variety of therapeutic models, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), MI (Motivational Interviewing), TF-CBT (Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy), SFBT (Solution Focused Brief Therapy), Family Systems Therapy, and ERP (Exposure Response Prevention), RO-DBT (Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy), EFFT (Emotion Focused Family Therapy); IFS (Internal Family Systems) and Brain-spotting.
Shauna enjoys traveling, attending concerts, photography and spending time with her family.
